The lunar calendar adds one extra month every third year. This extra month is known by various names: Adhik Maas, Mal Maas, Purushottam Maas, Malimmacha. This is the thirteenth month (Adhik Maas) of the lunar calendar.

According to the scriptures, Purushottam mass is the best of every third year. During this month chanting of chanting, penance and donation leads to infinite virtues. In this month, worship of Lord Shri Krishna, Shrimad Bhagwatgita, Shriram Katha, reading and worship of Lord Vishnu is performed. Worshiping this month has its own importance.

Reading the story in Purushottam Month also gives a lot of benefit. In this month sleeping on the ground, eating at the same time gives infinite results. It is 12 months in the year on the basis of the Sun's twelve Solstice. Purushottam month comes after every three years.
